Greek-inspired old men gathered around a table in conversation

Welcome to our new blog where you will hear a bunch of old men pontificating about things they probably don't know much about. But that's the way it is when you're in your 80s and living in a "rest home" where as we say you come in vertical and leave horizontal. It may put you to sleep, but sometimes that's good too. We are a group of men in our 80s who occasionally meet for breakfast and talk about books, sports, politics, religion, children, wives and other controversial topics. We try to keep it civilized. I have the advantage of being the scrivener of things they say so you may see me editorializing a little bit. In any case, we will post about every 2 weeks (we are all old and slow).

We all come from the Philadelphia area and our life-care community is just outside Philadelphia city limits (we are all happy to be outside city limits). We are big Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, 76ers and Philadelphia Union fans! Hopefully FIFA and the World Cup will turn major league soccer teams like the Union into big time international soccer teams. They are good now but live in the shadow of the Premier League and the EU teams. We all had different careers and we are all reasonably successful, but there are no billionaires in this group. Lots of our idol chit chat is about various health issues as you might expect. But don't read this hoping to get any advice you couldn't get better from your own doctor or Dr. Google!

The reason we chose an old Greek statue was that when I was 22, I went to Greece and enjoyed watching old men sitting all day talking and drinking ouzo. They would sit together in the hot sun enjoying their chit chat. This has gone on for centuries without necessarily using ouzo as the lubricant. In fact, my friends and I generally meet at breakfast so no ouzo or equal!
